MEDAL DAY
Medal Days will be held over a full weekend and children will be able to nominate the event(s) in which they wish to compete. Competition is held over the full day and is run on a set programme; therefore entries will not be taken after the closing date or on the day. Gold, Silver, & Bronze Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places in all finals. The Medal Day allows a child who excels in a particular event to attain an award and recognition. The Medal Day can be considered like a picnic day, you can come and set up your pergola, chairs, tables etc. from 6:00am. The day then starts at 8:00am sharp. So bring along some food and drinks, help at some of the events and have fun.
MEDAL DAY CHAMPION
The Award is determined by Medal Day Results. The child has to achieve a Gold Medal in a Run, Jump and Throw. Decathlon Points are then awarded for the best performance. The points score sheet can be found at www.lansw.com.au web site. The child with the highest score is the winner. If a child is a winner of another Major Award, they are eliminated from the Medal Day Award.
OUTSIDE CENTRE COMPETITION
Throughout the season various Centres organise Gala Days, which are usually held on Sundays. These Gala Days are open to all Centres including those outside the Outer Metropolitan Zone and provide the children the opportunity to compete against children outside their own centre. Details of various Gala Days to be held shall be advised throughout the season via the Centre’s Newsletter and posted on the Club Noticeboard.
The Outer West Metropolitan Zone Championships are held in January or February each year and is a competition between the 7 centres within the Zone. Children who wish to compete nominate the events of their choice. Final selections for events will be made by the Championship Officer, however all efforts will be made for children to compete in their chosen event(s). Successful children at the Zone Championships proceed into the Western Regional Championships.
Furthermore, successful children then represent at the State Track & Field Championships in March.
PARTICIPATION AWARD
To enable your child to receive a participation award at the end of the season, the child must have a 75% attendance record from the date of registration up until the Christmas break and attend at least two (2) centre competition days after the break.
If your child cannot attend because of sickness or holidays, please inform his/her Team Manager, otherwise the child will be marked as absent.
Parents: Please advise the relevant Team Manager if your child is sick or on holidays, or if they will not be returning to the Centre.

CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIPS Category Awards and Rules
We want to reward effort and attendance as much as coming a place. Firstly, Medal Day weekend will be the first days where all new club records can be set. Points will be awarded to each athlete as follows:
* Attendance = 10 points
* Going in an event = 2 points
* Placing = 1st 3 points, 2nd 2 points, 3rd 1 point
* PB = bonus 1 point for improving a PB
Athletes are also awarded points on their time or distance based on IAAF scales which are available on the LANSW website: http://www.lansw.com.au/Competition/Championships/State-Multi-Event-Championships/Point-Score-Tables.
The following table is how each Age Group and Champion is determined. It should be remembered that in order to be the Champion in each event (Throwing Sprints etc) you must compete in ALL events in that category.
Note: The Committee and Team Managers take note of season attendance of athletes (also with regard to athlete sickness and split family situations) and assume that all athletes compete regularly – with respect to not just “showing up for the Championship and Medal Day competitions only. Sporting commitments to other sports outside of athletics will not be considered.
Determination of Champion:
To determine the champion in each category the best time or distance for each athlete is recorded and converted into points using the NSW Athletics scoring system (which is available on the NSW Athletics website).
The points for each event are then added together to obtain a final score and the athlete with the highest points is determined champion.
